Most greeting cards give you a picture on the front and a blank page inside. Some add a one-line verse. A Story card goes much further: open it, and you'll find a complete, original letter printed inside, written in the voice of the character on the front.
How a Story card works
Every JustTheCardGuy design starts with a character: a Greek goddess, a tarot card, a cryptid in the woods, a fairy-tale hero, a vampire with impeccable manners. For a Story card, that character also gets to speak. The letter inside is addressed to the person receiving the card, and it's written for the occasion: a birthday, Christmas, encouragement, love or a hard moment.
Take the Sun tarot birthday card. The letter inside starts like this:
"I'll be honest: I love being drawn. Everyone smiles when I turn up. It's the best job in the deck."
From there, the Sun explains what it stands for in the cards, why that fits the birthday person, and signs off with a small joke. It reads like a real letter, because it is one.
Why people choose a Story card
- When the words won't come. Not everyone finds writing easy. With a Story card, the heavy lifting is done; you add a line and your name.
- When you want the card to be kept. A letter gets read twice, shown to others and tucked into a drawer. A blank card with "Happy birthday!" usually doesn't.
- When the recipient loves stories. Fans of mythology, fantasy, folklore and gothic fiction love hearing from their favourite kind of character.
- When the occasion is delicate. Our sympathy and remembrance Story cards offer gentle words for moments when finding your own feels impossible.
Story card or Front only?
Every Story card design is available in two versions:
- Story card: the complete letter is printed inside.
- Front only: the same illustration with a blank inside, for writing everything yourself.
You choose on the product page. The Story card version is a little more expensive because there's a whole letter inside, but both are printed on the same premium 220 gsm off-white paper, fold to A6 and come with a matching envelope.
Can I still write something myself?
Absolutely, and we'd encourage it. There's room inside for a short personal note and your signature. Many people add one specific line ("Remember that night in Lisbon?") which, combined with the letter, makes the card feel both crafted and personal.
Are the stories in English?
Yes. The letters are written in English. If you're shopping on our Dutch or German site, you'll see the product descriptions in your language, but the printed story inside the card is English.
Which occasions are there?
Story cards exist for birthdays, Christmas, encouragement, love and anniversaries, friendship, sympathy and remembrance, with new designs added regularly. A few favourite series:
- Tarot birthday cards: each major arcana card writes its own birthday letter.
- Mythology cards: gods and heroes from Greek, Norse and Egyptian myth.
- Fairy-tale cards: classic storybook characters with something to say.
- Christmas cards: from warm and hopeful to wonderfully gothic.
- Sympathy cards: gentle letters for loss and remembrance.
