Writer birthday card with a story inside: a bookish birthday card from a writer who couldn’t have invented you.

This hand-illustrated birthday card is part of my old-school character collection. Inside is a fully printed birthday letter written in the voice of the writer — funny, warm and surprisingly moving: the kind of card people keep.

On the front: “Happy Birthday — Of all the characters I could have written, I’m glad someone came up with you.”

Signed inside: “Inky fingers. Cold tea. Still can’t write a character as good as you.”

A perfect gift for

  • Lovers of unusual, illustrated birthday cards
  • Writers and authors
  • Book lovers
  • Friends too good for fiction
