King birthday card with a story inside: a royal-decree birthday card ordering an official royal fuss.

This hand-illustrated birthday card is part of my old-school character collection. Inside is a fully printed birthday letter written in the voice of the king — funny, warm and surprisingly moving: the kind of card people keep.

On the front: “Happy Birthday — A royal fuss is entirely appropriate. Being humble can wait until tomorrow.”

Signed inside: “Big crown. Bigger heart. Rules this kingdom mostly with cake.”

A perfect gift for

  • Lovers of unusual, illustrated birthday cards
  • Dads, bosses and birthday kings
  • Medieval fans
  • Anyone who deserves a royal fuss
